About the Job

The Department of Career Services in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) at the University of Minnesota periodically hires Teaching Specialists to teach undergraduate career development courses when instructional needs cannot be met by regular faculty or staff. These are temporary, part-time instructional appointments.

This posting is intended to establish a pool of qualified applicants for potential openings during the  academic year. Submission of an application does not guarantee employment. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis for courses offered during Fall 2026 (September-December 2026) and/or Spring 2027 (January-May 2027).

Teaching assignments may be delivered in person, online, or in a hybrid format. Teaching Specialists report to the Associate Director of Career Management Curriculum & Assessment within CLA Career Services.

In addition to teaching undergraduate career courses, Teaching Specialists are expected to hold office hours, provide academic support and guidance to students, participate in instructor meetings and training, and collaborate with colleagues to ensure a high-quality and consistent learning experience.

Time Appointment: 100% appointment for assigned course(s)

Job Responsibilities:

* Teach 1-3 sections of the CLA career courses per semester (number of sections is negotiable based on departmental needs and instructor availability).

* Prepare for and teach courses using Canvas and Google Suite.

* Be available to meet with students virtually or in-person by appointment.

* Grade assignments and turn grades in on time.

* Attend and participate in regular instructor meetings and trainings.

* Work as a team with other instructors to maintain consistency.

* Support employer events for courses, based on need.

* Receive official e-mails and respond in a timely manner.

* Continue personal growth within the career development profession, keep current with the field and instructional technology, and broaden knowledge and expertise.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

* MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education or a closely related field

* A minimum of one-year college teaching experience

* Broad familiarity with career development within the liberal arts

* Demonstrated effectiveness supporting principles of equal opportunity, diversity, equity and inclusion, including experience supporting students and staff with varying identities and backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

* Proficiency with Canvas, Google Suite, and other instructional technology

* At least one year experience working in career services in higher education

* Broad familiarity with Career Readiness in CLA

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $2,169 per credit taught; depending on education/qualifications/experience.

Additional Pay: $500 (first semester only) for non-CLASS P&A or Teaching Specialists to cover training/professional development
