We are seeking a College Laboratory Assistant 2 – Writing Tutor Coordinator to promote student success in all English courses and courses with writing elements across disciplines at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. The role serves as lead for a rotation of writing and subject‑related tutors, and works within a team to manage daily operations of the Academic Success Center.
Salary Range: $22.27 - $31.12 per hour ($46,499.76 - $64,979 annually).
Responsibilities- Promote student success in all English courses, courses with writing elements in other disciplines, and related courses.
- Manage the daily operations of the Writing Area.
- Collaborate with the Academic Success Center team to ensure smooth departmental function.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to maintain the organization’s reputation as a viable business partner.
- Associate or higher degree in Language Arts or a closely related field such as ASL, ESOL, or Speech and Communication Studies.
- One academic year of teaching/tutoring experience in Language Arts at the high school level or above, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Demonstrated ongoing understanding of cultural fluency, culturally responsive practices, and engagement in antiracism professional development.
- Ability to apply knowledge of course content and tutoring techniques to support student success.
- Strong human‑relations skills to assist and motivate students from diverse ethnic, cultural, academic, economic, and social backgrounds.
- Effective communication with faculty, counselors, administrators, and related personnel regarding student and departmental needs.
- Understanding of college policies and procedures to assist students, and up‑to‑date knowledge of curriculum changes and tutoring methodologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in English or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated effort to improve cultural competence and active participation in diversity training or professional development.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and lift up to 15 lbs.
- Current and/or former employees must be in good standing at Minneapolis College.
Hours:
9:30 am – 6:00 pm Monday–Thursday; 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Friday. Partial telework may be eligible per Minneapolis College’s telework guidelines.
