Job Description
The Department of English at Augsburg University invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach courses in English, writing, and composition in 2026. This search will establish a "pool" of instructors for potential openings during Spring, Summer, or Fall of 2026. Applicants may be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis throughout the year.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses, typically 12–15 hours per week for a 15–16 week term.
- Grade student work and respond to students’ questions via email.
- Hold regularly scheduled office hours.
- Provide students with course progress information and communicate regularly with the course coordinator.
- Use a course syllabus that includes a calendar, textbook and homework selection, sample activities and exams, and shared office space (when taught in person).
Candidates should be committed to student engagement and student success with a diverse group of learners.
Preferred Qualifications- A terminal degree (PhD) in English literature, rhetoric and composition, or Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in creative writing.
- A terminal degree in a related humanities field coupled with experience teaching English, writing, and composition.
- ABD individuals in PhD programs with experience teaching English, writing, and composition will be considered.
- $5,800 to $6,175 per undergraduate course
* for the 2025-26 academic year. - Eligible for 2–4% retirement contribution match.

* Course refers to a typical 4‑credit undergraduate course that has met minimum enrollment requirements.
The collective bargaining agreement with SEIU, Local 284, covers adjunct teaching at Augsburg University.

Please note that due to employment law and payroll regulations, we can only employ adjunct faculty who reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin. This restriction applies even to courses taught online.
