Title:

Adjunct Faculty Teaching Instructor

Job Code & Class: 9404T

Department:
Center for Bioethics

Budgeted Salary Range: $3750

Position Overview

This is a one semester adjunct teaching appointment for the Center for Bioethics' Spring 2027 Semester Care Ethics course. This course examines the caring work that serves as the very foundation of health care. What does it mean to truly care for patients and how do we act out this care in light of the changing landscape in health care? This course examines the ethical complexities of caring in light of advancing medical technology, increasingly restrictive resource limitations, ableism in healthcare, medical gas lighting and changing perceptions in clinical trustworthiness among other issues.

This course will explore the ethics of caring through a medical humanities lens. Through engagement with art, movies, poetry, and literature, students will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to care for patients. Course activities include participation in weekly discussion, movie viewings, and readings. Assignments include an art/literature analysis project and oral presentation.

The Center for Bioethics is committed to an excellent employee experience, offering a flexible work environment that meets the needs of students, staff, faculty, and the communities we serve. Flexible work arrangements may include flexibility in schedule and/or work location. All UMN employees are expected to follow applicable public health and safety procedures. This position is remote/hybrid work location and expectations.
