KIPP Minnesota Public Schools is one of 28 regional locations in a national network of high‑performing college‑preparatory schools. Established in 2008, it serves grades Kindergarten through 8th on our North Star campus in Minneapolis.
Position OverviewThe Special Education Middle School Teacher will directly lead instruction with students. Special Education teachers co‑teach alongside a general education teacher in an inclusion or resource classroom setting to support all students and lead small‑group instructional spaces. They will plan daily lessons that lead to high levels of student achievement and build and support a school‑wide culture of excellence.
Primary Responsibilities- Implement the school‑wide student management policies within classrooms and throughout the campus
- Create and teach challenging and engaging lessons aligned to state standards
- Assist in the development of curriculum standards and mapping
- Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents
- Create a classroom environment that is warm and demanding and expects 100% of students to meet expectations
- Maintain a neat, clean classroom environment and a professional personal appearance
- Work to ensure that all IEPs and student needs are met both within and outside the classroom
- Manage a student caseload
- Perform morning, lunch and afternoon duties as assigned and attend all staff meetings
- With support from school leaders, use data to drive instructional practices to constantly improve student achievement and instruction
- Seek to constantly develop and improve teaching practices through ongoing feedback conversations with school leaders and other faculty within KIPP Minnesota
- B.A./B.S. degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field teaching
- Minnesota state certification in teaching appropriate subject areas (K-6 Special Education Elementary Education). Applicants who hold the following credentials by August 31st of each school year are welcome to apply. We will work with applicants whose license is in process.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Experience writing IEPs not necessary, training will be provided
- Highly organized and punctual
- Customer focused approach
- A high degree of flexibility
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast‑paced environment
- Experience with using technology in teaching and learning
- Skill in using positive, constructive disciplinary approaches
- Familiarity with current teaching/learning theories
- Experience working in historically underserved communities and communities of color
- Minimum three (3) years of classroom teaching experience
Starting salary for Tier 1 teachers: $44,880+. Tier 2/3/4 salary is dependent on experience.
Other benefits include many paid days off, including breaks (an entire week in November and other points throughout the school year), eight additional PTO days for teachers, and “For You Fridays” (an afternoon off).
The compensation package includes medical, dental, life, long & short‑term disability, and retirement benefits, with an annual salary review and revision.
