- Hennepin County Extension Office (City of Eden Prairie) - 100% FTE
- Positions are in-person; some roles may have flexible work options.

About the JobThe 4-H Extension Educator position is a community-based academic professional of the University of Minnesota Extension. The role links University research and Minnesota residents by creating learning opportunities that address local needs. The educator will primarily work with adults to lead, manage, and steward the full range of 4-H Youth Development programming in the county. The educator collaborates with youth, families, volunteers, community partners, and university faculty/staff to achieve two overarching program goals:
This role works at the assigned county Extension Office and in various community educational settings, including outdoors (e.g., camps, fairs). Must travel several times per week within the county and regionally/statewide multiple times per year.
Work ScheduleFull-time. Requires flexibility for day, evening, and weekend hours as needed.
Primary Responsibilities Program Development, Delivery, and Engagement (40%)- Engage youth, volunteers, and partners to create a county program plan that meets local needs, aligns with MN 4-H strategic direction, and supports program growth and sustainability.
- Design, develop, deliver, and implement high-quality, culturally relevant, impactful programs that support youth learning and leading.
- Develop/adapt lesson plans and facilitate youth and adult learning using instructional best practices.
- Plan and manage delivery of 4-H clubs, camps, after-school programs, showcases, fairs, and other events.
- Identify and implement strategies to grow program participation and ensure welcoming programs for all participants.
- Collaborate and build relationships with supervisors, program leaders, Extension educators, peers, county partners, and stakeholders (in person and virtually).
- Develop and support community partnerships to extend program reach and impact.
- Establish and maintain effective staffing plans including partners, volunteers, interns, and short-term employees.
- Use evaluation tools and processes to inform future program design, improve effectiveness, demonstrate value, and market the program.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Establish and support a volunteer development system that builds capacity and long-term sustainability of the 4-H program.
- Meet and collaborate with volunteers and volunteer leaders to enrich relationships and volunteer roles.
- Identify needs and opportunities for volunteer management, recruit, and place individuals in roles.
- Cultivate volunteer relationships through orientation, training, utilization, recognition, and evaluation.
- Ensure the volunteer screening process is implemented and followed at all times; report concerns or variances.
- Acknowledge and address volunteer role problems.
- Manage compliance with organizational policies, youth safety, risk management, and financial management.
- Manage and document the county 4-H program budget, including expenses, deposits, cash handling, asset inventory, accurate records, and financial reports.
- Ensure partners, participants, and volunteers follow financial procedures; address issues and meet deadlines.
- Manage processes for enrollment, event participation, club chartering, program agreements, and related activities.
- Recruit, orient, supervise, and support interns and short-term employees.
- Develop and implement a year-round communication plan that attracts diverse youth, families, and volunteers, leading to enrollment and retention.
- Collect data and deliver reports and presentations on 4-H Youth Development impact to stakeholders.
- Communicate with peers, county partners, and others to promote program value and mission.
- Represent the University of Minnesota Extension and Department of Youth Development in all professional interactions and events.
- Complete the job screening questionnaire.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, family and consumer sciences, sociology, psychology, or agriculture, completed by the start date.
