Job Description
The department of Sociology at Augsburg University invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach undergraduate courses in 2026. This search will establish a “pool” of instructors for potential openings during the Fall 2026 term.
Available courses vary by term. Our primary need is for instructors who can teach Introduction to Sociology. We also have varying needs for instructors who can teach Protest and Social Change and Disaster and Resilience. Most classes are held during the day, 2–3 days per week. In addition to teaching the class and grading student work, instructors are expected to respond to student questions through email, hold regularly scheduled office hours, provide course progress information, and communicate regularly with the course coordinator.
A course syllabus, textbook, homework selection, sample activities and exams, and shared office space are typically provided. Most classes are taught in‑person on our Minneapolis campus. Each course requires approximately 12–15 hours per week for 15–16 weeks.
The successful candidate will possess a high level of intercultural competency and a commitment to inclusive practice and authentic representation.
Please note that due to employment law and payroll regulations, we can only employ adjunct faculty who reside in and work from Minnesota or Wisconsin. This restriction also applies to online courses.
Compensation & Benefits- $6,100 to $6,475 per undergraduate course for the 2026–27 academic year*

* Course refers to a typical 4‑credit undergraduate course that has met minimum enrollment requirements.
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Sociology or a closely related field and significant professional experience.
- Late‑career graduate students with relevant expertise will also be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in Sociology or related field.
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
