SummaryMelrose Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Long Term Substitute Elementary Special Education Teacher to join our team. This position is ideal for an individual who is passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs and is committed to fostering an inclusive and engaging classroom environment. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with staff, students, and families to ensure that all students receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially.
Responsibilities- Adapt and modify curriculum and instructional strategies to accommodate the diverse learning styles and abilities of students.
- Create and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and learning.
- Collaborate with special education staff, general education teachers, and support personnel to coordinate services and resources for students.
- Assess student progress regularly and maintain accurate records of student performance and behavior.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding student progress, challenges, and achievements.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in special education practices.
- Assist in the development and implementation of behavioral intervention plans as needed.
- Supervise and support students during non‑instructional times, including lunch and recess.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field;
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education (or eligibility for certification).
- Experience working with elementary‑aged students with special needs is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable educational experience for all students.
- Must pass background checks as required by state law.
