Summary:
The Basement Inclusion Assistant supports the development and delivery of high-quality, inclusive out-of-school time programming for middle school youth participating in The Basement program. This position assists with planning and leading engaging enrichment activities, implementing accommodations and behavior supports, and creating a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment where all students can participate successfully. The position works collaboratively with The Basement program staff, families, school staff, community partners, and district staff to support student engagement, positive youth development, and inclusive program practices.
Functions
Support the mission of The Basement by helping provide a fun, safe, enriching experience that promotes lifelong learning, student engagement, social development, and positive youth relationships. Plan, prepare, and lead age-appropriate enrichment activities for middle school youth before school, after school, on non-school days, and during vacation day programming. Create and facilitate activities that promote creativity, leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, social skills, student choice, and positive peer interaction.
Assist with the development and implementation of inclusive lesson plans, activity plans, behavior support plans, safety plans, accommodations, and program modifications. Adapt activities, materials, routines, and group structures so students with varying abilities and support needs can participate meaningfully and successfully. Provide direct support to students who require additional behavioral, social-emotional, physical, or individualized assistance during program activities and transitions.
Promote an inclusive, anti-bias program environment where all students feel welcomed, respected, supported, and able to participate. Use positive behavior supports, conflict resolution strategies, and crisis management skills to maintain a safe and respectful program environment. Assist with daily program operations, including student supervision, attendance, transitions, snacks, activity set-up and clean-up, shared space expectations, and general program support. Observe student needs and communicate with supervisors and staff regarding strategies that support student engagement, emotional regulation, peer interaction, and safety.
Communicate professionally and effectively with families, staff, and community partners while maintaining confidentiality regarding students, staff, and families. Maintain required documentation related to student support plans, accommodations, incidents, medications, training, and other program requirements as assigned. Attend required inclusion trainings, staff meetings, and program meetings. Support program practices that align with Robbinsdale Area Schools policies, Community Education procedures, and applicable program expectations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
60 college credits and 3 years' experience working in education, youth development or related field OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. Experience working with school-age youth, preferably adolescents ages 11-14, in a school-age care, youth development, recreation, enrichment, or educational setting. Experience supporting students with varying abilities, behavioral needs, social-emotional needs, or individualized support plans.
Ability to plan, organize, adapt, and lead engaging enrichment activities for middle school students. Ability to build positive relationships and communicate professionally with students, families, staff, school partners, and community partners. Demonstrated ability to use positive behavior supports, conflict resolution strategies, and crisis management skills while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Commitment to multicultural, gender-fair, anti-bias, and disability-aware practices; CPR, First Aid, and CPI certification preferred or ability to obtain within required timelines.
A valid Minnesota State Driver's License may be required.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.
