** Job Description
** Minneapolis College is currently accepting applications for an Academic Advisor.
The Academic Advisor at Minneapolis College serves as a member of a professional team providing comprehensive and high-quality academic advising services for students who are: clarifying their academic and career interests, preparing for admission to majors, pursuing declared majors, and planning for transfer. This position advises and supports students across multiple areas including enrollment, career, programs and majors, curriculum, procedures, transfer, business office policies, and financial aid.
Academic Advisors use problem solving skills to resolve a broad range of student issues across multiple functions. Academic Advisors provide consistent, timely, and accurate information to students regarding college curricular and policy requirements relative to academic program planning. Advocating for students as they navigate academic and financial obstacles, as well as petitions, appeals, and concern processes, is a vital part of this role.
Academic Advisors participate in, and lead college and department strategic initiatives designed to eliminate educational equity gaps, improve completion rates for degree seeking students, and develop a more culturally competent, service-oriented institutional culture. This position works collaboratively across student affairs departments and with faculty and administration in assigned schools to meet the strategic goals of the department, division and institution.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Provide holistic, high-quality academic and transfer advising services to current and returning Minneapolis College students.
* Lead and actively participate in projects and initiatives that support the strategic enrollment and retention goals of the department and college, in collaboration with other student affairs offices and academic departments.
* Provide onboarding and academic advising assistance to new students at enrollment events, including open houses, registration events, and orientations.
* Actively participate in division, school and program related committees and/or meetings.
* Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency, incorporates culturally responsive practices,and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities.
* Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
** Salary Range:**$26.12 - $37.91 per hour/ $54,539 - $79,156 annually
** Minimum Qualifications
*** Minimum one (1) year of experience working with post-secondary students or students who are preparing for post-secondary enrollment in the areas of, but not limited to: academic advising, career counseling, financial aid, admissions, records/registration, guidance counseling, or other support functions. A Bachelor’s degree in academic advising or a related field may be substituted for the one (1) year of required work experience.
* Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and clarify problems or issues and to prepare and execute possible solutions under the direction of a supervisor.
* Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and procedures to students, staff, and other stakeholders, which include public speaking and presentations.
