Responsibilities:

Teaching Assistant positions in the Finance Department typically could include, but are not limited to:

* In-class participation (via Zoom or in-person).

* Office hours, grading (papers, tests, and exams), library searches, and assisting students with questions.

* Assist with preparation of class materials: sort, file, collate, design, and/or distribute.

* Communications duties may include updating and maintaining accessibility standards for Canvas and materials.

* Additional duties as assigned by the instructor. The faculty you are assigned with will determine the specifics of your duties.

* All TAs must complete all required Department, Carlson School and U of M trainings before the given deadline.

Hours will vary (5-20) depending on course complexity, the number of student, the number assignments, exam, quizzes and/or special projects assigned by instructor. Full course assignment will be given to the successful candidate in a formal offer letter. This will include room locations, times, and course titles. This is an exception hourly position, employees are paid biweekly, every other Wednesday.

The expected start date of the position is August 31, 2026. The position is expected to last through the Fall 2026 term with an expected end date of January 13, 2027.

This position will remain open until filled, which will be on or after August 1, 2026. The priority Final date to receive applications for this position is August 1, 2026.

This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Minnesota and the Graduate Labor Union-United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (GLU-UE).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

* Graduate student enrolled in a graduate or post-baccalaureate professional degree program at the University of Minnesota, enrolled in the minimum number of credits required for student employment.

* Demonstrated experience in the area of expertise of the course assignment.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Enrolled in a master's program within the Carlson School of Management or a related field.

About the Department

The Carlson School Finance Department (academic unit) focuses on understanding financial decisions, markets, and institutions. Faculty research in these areas is internationally known and has been published in the best finance and economics journals. The department is committed to quality teaching at the undergraduate, MBA MSF, and PhD level.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:
The FY2027 Carlson School Graduate Assistant pay rate is a minimum of $28.93/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Student workers are eligible to participate in the Student Health Benefit Plan, if they maintain 6 or more eligible course credits within a given semester. The same applies for Undergraduate Students, Graduate Assistants, Residents, Fellows and Interns.
