About the Job
The Department of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design (ALI) at the University of Minnesota College of Design invites applications for term-limited, part-time adjunct faculty teaching positions. This posting is for a continuous pool of instructors to teach courses as openings occur throughout the academic year and summer. The department values part-time faculty who are active practitioners to bring contemporary professional knowledge, scholarship, and design leadership into our programs.
CourseTypes
- Design studios (Introductory design techniques, urban design, building design, landscape, sustainable design, and interior spaces/environments, etc.).
- Design communication (advanced visual representation, drawing, digital design, imaging, modeling, and visualization methods).
- History and theory (design history, architectural, environmental, and/or landscape theory).
- Technical and systems (construction technology and methods, building systems, materials, earthwork grading, material properties/assemblies, and stormwater management, etc.).
- Miscellaneous (furniture design, fabrication workshops, design-build projects, portfolio design, etc.)
- Teach 3 credit lecture course/s, including development of course/s, syllabi and other instructional materials.
- Create a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and other constituents from diverse backgrounds.
- Integrate diversity in curriculum development, teaching, and program design.
- Hold weekly office hours.
- Consult regularly with the faculty program director.
- Participate in participate in a range of academic activities such as, curricular meetings, end of semester reviews, guest lectures etc.
Minimum Requirements
- An accredited professional degree or equivalent in architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, or a related field.
- One to three years of demonstrated professional and/or teaching expertise.
- Maintenance of an active external design practice or leadership position within the community.
- Expertise in one or more of the course topic areas listed above.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in a relevant design field.
- Five or more years of professional or teaching experience.
- Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, mentorship, or professional practice through award-winning work or national/international prominence.
Pay Range: $6,000 - $14,510; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
