French and Italian Language Lecturer — Curriculum Innovator

About the Job

The Department of French & Italian maintains a pool of lecturers and teaching specialists to teach French and Italian courses, mostly lower-division language skills courses, that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate teaching assistants. These positions may be full- or part-time for fall or spring semesters, and summer. These positions are for day, evening, or a combination of day/evening courses, taught on a semester basis.

Salary range is competitive based upon qualifications.

Teach assigned language classes/sections; keep office hours; prepare course materials; engage in curriculum development; prepare and grade exams; and participate in program meetings as appropriate. Teaching one course per semester is 34%; teaching two courses per semester is 68%; teaching two courses and assisting with another course is 84%; teaching three courses per semester is 100%.

This does not constitute a posting for vacancies, but establishes a pool of applicants should openings occur during the academic year. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• M.A. or foreign equivalent in French, Italian, or related area. Native or near-native fluency in French or Italian.
• Strong English language communication skills.
• University-level teaching experience in French or Italian language.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in French, Italian, or related area.
• Two or more years of university-level teaching experience in French or Italian language.

Pay Range: depending on education/qualifications/experience.

Teaching Specialists are paid both per credit and/or per course as follows:

• Undergraduate credit courses: $1,500 per credit minimum
• Undergraduate credit courses: $7,500 per course minimum*

Lecturers are paid both per credit and/or per course as follows:

• Undergraduate credit courses: $1,600 per credit minimum
• Undergraduate credit courses: $8,000 per course minimum*

* Per-course pay rate applies to all 3-5 credit undergraduate courses.
