The Department of Sociology at Augsburg University invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach undergraduate courses in 2026. This search will establish a pool of instructors if openings occur during Fall 2026 term. Available courses vary by term; primary need is for Introduction to Sociology, with additional needs for courses such as Protest and Social Change and Disaster and Resilience.

Most classes are held during the day, 2-3 days per week. In addition to teaching and grading, instructors are expected to respond to student questions via email, hold regularly scheduled office hours, provide course progress updates to students, and communicate regularly with the course coordinator. A course syllabus with calendar, textbook, homework, sample activities and exams, and shared office space are typically provided.

Most classes are taught in-person on Minneapolis campus. Each course requires approximately 12-15 hours/week for 15-16 weeks.

The successful candidate will possess a high level of intercultural competency and a commitment to inclusive practice and authentic representation.

The collective bargaining agreement with SEIU, Local 284, covers adjunct teaching at Augsburg University.

• $6,100 to $6,475 per undergraduate course
  * for the 2026-27 academic year

* Course refers to a typical 4-credit undergraduate course that has met minimum enrollment requirements.

Please note that due to employment law and payroll regulations, we can only employ adjunct faculty who reside in and work from Minnesota or Wisconsin. This restriction also applies to online courses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree in Sociology or a closely related field and significant professional experience.
• Late-career graduate students with relevant expertise will also be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field.
• Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
