Beacons Center Youth Counselor
Hourly Pay Range: $17.50 – $18.50 Status:
Part-Time
Location:
Hmong International Academy (HIA), Minneapolis Public Schools / YWCA Minneapolis
As a Beacons Center Youth Counselor, you'll provide direct service to participants in the Beacons Learning Center at Hmong International Academy. Beacons provides after-school academic and enrichment opportunities with a focus on inspiring youth to make positive decisions for themselves and their futures to students in grades K-5.
- Plan, prepare and facilitate/co-facilitate age appropriate and culturally informed educational activities utilizing and/or creating Youth Development curriculum
- Support in recruiting and maintaining program participant
- Help develop and maintain a safe learning environment that is student-centered, mission-focused, and accessible to a diverse student body
- Support communication and retention with participants and families Track program attendance daily and enter information into database on regular basis
- Participate in educational activities and trainings for professional and programmatic development including attending and participating in departmental and Beacons program team meetings
- Additional duties as assigned
School Year:
Monday - Thursday - 1:30PM - 5:30PM
Summer:
Hours subject to change based on summer activities and program need

- High School Diploma/GED
- One year of experience working with youth from low-income and inner-city families
- One year of experience planning and facilitating effective, structured groups
- Strong oral, written and presentation skills
- Ability to carry out duties independently, as well as in team setting
- Ability to work with a variety of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 - CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
- Belief in the mission of the YWCA Minneapolis and able to convey its importance
- High School Diploma/GED
- One year of experience working with youth from low-income and inner-city families
- One year of experience planning and facilitating effective, structured groups
- Strong oral, written and presentation skills
- Ability to carry out duties independently, as well as in team setting
- Ability to work with a variety of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives
