This position is for an educator to instruct a supplemental course as part of our after school college preparation program, serving high school students from Minneapolis Public Schools.

Instructors will teach one of the following courses:

• 9th Grade: Science Exploration & Study Skills
  - Wednesdays, mid-January through May
• 10th Grade: English Composition
  - Thursdays, October through May
• 11th Grade: ACT Preparation & Career Exploration
  - Tuesdays, October through May
• 12th Grade: College Planning
  - Mondays, October through May

Classes meet once per week from 3:00-6:00 p.m. In addition to the weekly class time, instructors should plan for dedicated preparation time each week to develop and coordinate the course with a Teaching Assistant (TA).

Instructors must be available for the following:

• Weekly class commitment: 3:00-6:00 p.m. on the designated course day, from the start of programming through the end of the academic year.
• Weekly course preparation: Additional time outside of class to prepare lessons, coordinate with the Teaching Assistant, and complete other course-related responsibilities.
• Staff training: Participation in required staff training during, date options provided at hiring.
• Academic year orientation: Attendance at one of the following orientation sessions:
  • Saturday, September 26, 9:00 a.m.
    
    -12:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 30, 5:00-8:30 p.m.
• Program dates: Programming and classes begin the first week of October 2026 and conclude the first full week of May 2027.
• Curriculum wrap-up: Instructors should be available for curriculum wrap-up during the week following the final week of classes.

Please note: Applicants should be prepared to commit to the full academic-year schedule associated with the course they are selected to teach.

• Teach specific class in a classroom at the University of Minnesota
  - Twin Cities campus (usually Appleby Hall), in alignment with the Minneapolis School District calendar
• Monitor student attendance
• Document student performance

• Revise and/or update curriculum for a high school level course
• Prepare weekly lesson plans that include differentiated instruction that supports students' individual needs and incorporates a multi-sensory approach
• Manage the class gradebook

• Assess student academic growth
• Inform TRIO UB staff of student academic and/or social-emotional concerns
• Problem-solve with TRIO UB staff areas of concern to help inform intervention
• Complete student evaluations as required by TRIO UB program

• Supervise one undergraduate teaching assistant
• Assign duties for the TA to assist with the successful delivery of course

• Attend and complete required staff training and occasional staff meetings
• Other duties as assigned

The budgeted salary range for this position is $24/hr to $28/hr final salary offers are dependent on the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity within the department.

• BA/BS degree
• Experience with direct classroom instruction
• Experience working with diverse, multicultural/multilingual and/or urban high school students (can be outside a classroom setting)
• Available during the specified time (October to May or January to May) and follow the Minneapolis Public School calendar
• Ability to develop and deliver content in ways that effectively account for a variety of backgrounds, communities, identities, and abilities
• Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities

• Experience teaching in the specific content area
• Experience working w/ English Language Learners
• Experience working with low-income, and/or students who will be the first in their family to attend college (can be outside a classroom setting)
• Experience developing and evaluating curriculum
• Experience evaluating student learning and content retention
• Experience supervising teaching assistants
• Strong communication skills (written and oral)
• Willingness and flexibility to fulfill other tasks assigned to further TRIO UB program goals
