Special Education Coordinator
Reports To:
Executive Director, Special Ed Director

Teaching Staff, Paraprofessional Special Education Staff

Special education records:
- Oversight and Coordination of due process management and IEP services for all students, assuring they are accurate, timely and of high quality.
- Serves as a teacher mentor assisting and training in the IEP management.
- Holds regular check-ins with case managers to ensure compliance and timeline management.
- Assists in special education evaluation training for case managers.
- Provides testing support, (e.g., academic testing, ASD testing)
- Assures maintenance of accurate student special education files consistent with rules and regulations, including student file systems, SPED forms, teacher files and storage.
- Serves as the district representative on internal and external IEP meetings.
- Depending on license, serves as General education representative at IEP meetings.
- Leads the Child Study Team in coordinating the assessment referral process, assurance of documentation, and timely follow-through with recommendations that are completed.
- Leads management of Assessment inventory & tools/supports inventory
- Coordinates Extended School year services in collaboration with case managers.
- Leads the Special Education Advisory Committee.
- Works closely with the Director of Special Education and attends team meetings regarding related services (Therapists, Contracted providers behavior team)
- Program development
- Communicates directly with families to assure family and student needs are addressed in a timely and professional manner.
- Develops, implements, evaluates and documents the transition process for students entering and exiting Spero Academy into other educational environments.
- Collaborates with Operations to schedule paraprofessional staff as IEP program needs emerge.
- Coordinates IEP transportation services for students with special transportation needs.
- Conducts the screening, interview and orientation of new special education staff.
- Assists in the evaluation of Due Process for end of the year teacher/therapist evaluations.
- Provides training annually and assures compliance with training for special education staff.
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with local, state and federal laws.
- Masters degree and 5+ years experience preferred in Elementary Special Education with current licensure by the State of Minnesota.
- Current Minnesota Director of Special Education license preferred or in current administrative licensure program.
- Two or more years in a special education administrative position; experience with staff evaluation preferred.
- Two or more years of experience developing, implementing and evaluating special programs and working with students with low incidence disabilities.
- Group facilitation and conflict resolution training and experience.
- Experience with general education curriculum and differentiated instruction at the elementary level.
- Experience creating and implementing meaningful professional development activities.
- Experience training and coaching educators in the implementation of positive behavioral supports and restrictive procedures.
- Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to establish collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to use a variety of digital devices and office equipment to efficiently complete job duties.
- Google Suite experience preferred.
- Self-motivated, proactive, accountable and resourceful in the completion of work assignments.
- Ability to plan and organize work successfully with limited supervision.
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Ability to maintain status of “not disqualified” upon completion of criminal background.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
