This position can be based in Minneapolis, MN 55401, or Eau Claire, WI 54702, on a hybrid (3 days per week in the office) work schedule. It can be hired at the Designer I or II level depending on the overall candidate s experience, qualifications, and interview results.

Position Summary – Designer I

Hourly Pay Rate $25.00 - $35.00 with full benefits

An entry level position, this position is for a Control Designer in our substation design group. Be part of a knowledgeable team that creates detailed electrical schematics for controlling and protecting substation equipment. The designer works in support of capital improvements, modifications and system reconfigurations completed by construction, operations, or maintenance.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Control Designer – Efficiently and safely produce Metering & Relaying diagrams, Communication One-Lines, Panel Elevations, Schematic Diagrams, and Wiring Diagrams per engineering Scope of Work documents.
  • Provides support and direction for well executed team efforts on projects including planning, scheduling, cost and budget control, and communication to the project team members, and management.
  • Perform inspection work and maintain liaison with construction and/or contractor field construction personnel to ensure adequacy of design, and compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Effectively plan design activities, in accordance with the project teams plans, to assure projects are completed as scheduled. Update the schedules to reflect an accurate status of the project s progress.
  • Coordinates project development on small, routine projects, including equipment problems, and design modifications required by project changes.
  • Develops new design standards and modifies existing design standards to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective designs. Checks and reviews designs, design guides and standards by others (including consultants).
Minimum Requirements – Designer I
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of Associate s Degree in one of the following fields of study: drafting, design, automation, electronics, mechatronics, engineering, GIS, other related field of study. In lieu of an Associate s Degree: a combination of education and experience in design/drafting, construction, project management, or electronics providing equivalent knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following: GIS, design software, work management programs, and related systems desirable.
  • Knowledge of construction standards, materials, and technical codes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
  • Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Driver s License may be required.
Position Summary – Designer II

Hourly Pay Rate $29.00 - $41.00 with full benefits

An intermediate level position, this position is for a Control Designer in our substation design group. The designer works in support of capital improvements, modifications and system reconfigurations completed by construction, operations, or maintenance.

Minimum Requirements – Designer II
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associate s Degree in one of the following fields of study: drafting, design, automation, electronics, mechatronics, engineering, GIS, other related field of study. In lieu of an Assoc. Degree: a combination of education and experience in design/drafting, construction, project management, or electronics providing equivalent experience and knowledge.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Designer I or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in one or more of the following: GIS, design software, work management programs, and related systems or related systems required.
