The Role

This Quality Engineer will ensure consistent product quality across Cardinal IG’s nationwide operations by leading internal audits, strengthening quality systems, validating production capabilities, and supporting customers with technical expertise.

Job Description

Cardinal IG’s Technology Center is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Quality Engineer to join our Insulating Glass Technical Service Team. This team serves as the key technical liaison between Cardinal IG’s production facilities, customers, and industry partners.

In this role, you will lead quality-related initiatives, support internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts that directly influence product performance and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities Quality Leadership & Internal Support
  • Lead and coordinate Cardinal’s internal quality audit program.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for quality control topics.
  • Work closely with plant quality managers on best practices.
  • Validate plant capabilities against customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with IT to enhance quality data systems.
Customer & External Interaction
  • Act as a primary quality liaison for national accounts.
  • Support customers, architects, and homeowners with technical questions.
  • Engage with external organizations (ASTM, NGA, SGCC).
Continuous Improvement & Projects
  • Lead cross-functional quality projects.
  • Support R&D and pilot production as needed.

Cardinal IG is a manufacturer of sealed Insulating Glass (IG) units for the window market. We are the largest residential glass supplier in the US, with approximately 50 facilities and 10,000 employees located throughout the United States. Cardinal is a management-owned company founded in 1962. The IG Technology Center has approximately 50 employees, and is responsible for R&D, Technical Services, and Supply Chain Management for the IG division: as well as pilot production for next generation of glass products.

Cardinal’s products are used in approximately 75% of all residential windows and doors, reducing the energy usage of millions of homes across North America.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in quality management, engineering, statistics, or another relevant field.
  • 4-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of quality methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, FMEA, ISO) and statistics (MSA, PPAP, capability analysis, SPC)
  • Experience in glass, windows, doors, or associated industries a plus.
  • Power BI or similar tool experience.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Commitment to safety and an orderly and safe workplace.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, within Cardinal and externally with our customers, suppliers, and industry organizations.
  • Time management skills with the ability to plan and track multiple projects over months.
  • Ability to communicate complicated concepts in writing and in person.
  • Ability to travel to Cardinal and customer facilities, installation / testing sites, and industry meetings / events (approx. 10-25%)
