Traffic Engineering Project Manager – Minneapolis, MN
WSP is initiating a search for a Traffic Engineering Project Manager for our Minneapolis, MN office. This position will be located in WSP’s Minneapolis office and is a home/in‑office hybrid.
OverviewThe Traffic Engineering Project Manager is a member of WSP’s Minneapolis Traffic/ITS Team, responsible for delivering projects across a variety of clients and scopes. The role focuses on identifying client opportunities, capturing them through effective proposals, and managing these projects throughout their life cycles. The manager will impact all elements of WSP Minnesota’s traffic engineering business and contribute to success through management skills, technical expertise, client relationships, and collaboration with other WSP offices in the Midwest.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership, oversight, and overall management of traffic‑related engineering projects and studies across Minnesota.
- Assist with technical expertise on traffic projects within the Midwest region.
- Collaborate with local and regional technical leads, and clients to grow the Traffic team and expand work.
- Identify new market and service opportunities; work with talent acquisition to grow the business.
- Coordinate with Regional Traffic leaders nationwide for workshare opportunities.
- Manage tasks for project development, including technical analysis and report production.
- Interface with staff from other disciplines (civil, planning, structures, etc.) to support diverse projects.
- Improve overall quality and delivery of projects within the Traffic Engineering discipline.
- Support agency coordination, permitting, and public participation activities.
- Perform marketing and business development activities: gathering client intelligence, leading pursuits, proposal development, presentations, and fee estimates.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (traffic emphasized) or related field.
- 7‑10 years of experience in traffic engineering projects.
- 5 years of leading and managing traffic engineering projects.
- Proven ability to manage workload and balance multiple projects.
- Deep understanding of public sector transportation/traffic procurement across agencies.
- Experience in proposal development and forming consultant partnerships.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated success in a leadership role.
- Strong interpersonal and team‑building skills.
- Experience leading traffic corridor studies and producing high‑quality analysis, alternatives, high‑level design, and final reports.
- Technical skills in traffic design and analysis, including long‑range strategic plans, multimodal traffic design/planning, safety studies (e.g., road safety audits), and ICE reports and warrant analysis.
- Experience managing review and approval of documents and deliverables in multi‑project environments.
- Master’s degree in engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
- Recognized industry leader with roles in ITE, ACEC, WTS, COMTO, or similar societies.

CompensationExpected Salary: $107,700 – $181,900 (based on education, experience, skills, and location). WSP reserves the right to adjust.
