Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineer
Job Title:
Electrical Systems Engineer
The Electrical Systems Engineer designs, develops, and delivers robust electrical machine control systems that meet performance, reliability, cost, and regulatory requirements. This role translates product and business needs into scalable electrical architectures, leads proof-of-concept efforts to reduce technical risk, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to execute complex engineering programs from concept through production. The engineer applies systems engineering principles, industry standards, and structured problem‑solving methods to create innovative, maintainable electrical solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Translate business and product requirements into well‑architected, implemented, and documented electrical system solutions.
- Define and manage functional, performance, and interface requirements for electrical machine systems using appropriate requirements and interface control tools.
- Design and develop electrical machine control systems with a strong focus on clear interfaces, reuse, maintainability, and long‑term scalability.
- Plan, execute, and evaluate proof‑of‑concept activities to validate new ideas, reduce risk, and guide development decisions.
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Hardware, Systems, Software, Production, and Supply Chain teams throughout the development lifecycle.
- Lead and participate in design reviews, presenting concepts, trade‑offs, risks, and mitigation strategies to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Partner with internal teams, external vendors, and design service providers to implement, integrate, and sustain electrical solutions across new and legacy platforms.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations (e.g., UL, IEC, EMC, ESD, EFT) and maintain supporting documentation.
- Perform structured risk assessments such as DFMEA and lead root cause analysis efforts to resolve technical issues and improve system robustness.
- Contribute to project planning and execution with attention to cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
- Decompose complex projects into clear development milestones and manage work and defects using tools such as Jira.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively across disciplines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in electrical systems engineering or related roles.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing electrical system architectures.
- Hands‑on experience developing control systems that integrate new and legacy electrical components.
- Strong understanding of electrical system integration, including harnessing, connectors, cable routing, and electrical/mechanical protection methods.
- Experience working on cross‑functional engineering teams.
- Experience with requirements development, verification, and traceability.
- Proven problem‑solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in dynamic, evolving development environments.
- Effective communicator with the ability to lead small cross‑functional efforts.
- Experience with electric vehicle or electrified system architectures.
- Proficiency with modeling, simulation, and control design tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Math Cad, or PSpice.
- Experience with power electronics, power systems, and closed‑loop control.
- Familiarity with communication protocols including CAN, RS‑232, Ethernet, and USB.
- Basic familiarity with mechanical CAD tools such as Solid Works.
- Experience collaborating with external vendors and design partners.
- Experience in structured problem‑solving methodologies.
This role operates in a collaborative, cross‑disciplinary engineering environment focused on innovation, structured problem‑solving, and continuous improvement. The position involves a combination of design and analysis work, design reviews, and hands‑on system integration and testing. Engineers regularly interact with electrical hardware, wiring harnesses, PCBAs, and control systems, and use modern engineering tools for requirements management, task tracking,…
