Role Overview
Ryan Companies is seeking a forward‑thinking VDC Engineer to support our self‑perform concrete operations in Minneapolis, MN. The VDC Engineer – Self‑Perform Concrete focuses on 3‑D modeling, layout coordination, and field integration for large‑scale foundation and structural work.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain accurate Revit models for foundations, reinforcement, formwork, and embedded items specific to the self‑perform concrete scope.
- Support field layout using Autodesk Point Layout and Trimble equipment, ensuring model‑based data aligns with on‑site conditions.
- Coordinate underground and foundation work among self‑perform crews, design teams, and trade partners to maintain constructability and accuracy before field execution.
- Maintain as‑built models and update geometry to reflect field changes.
- Provide technical support for model usage, layout workflows, and drawing generation for office and field teams.
- Assist in developing lift drawings, pour sequencing plans, and logistics layouts based on the construction model.
- Support field operations with RFI responses, change management, and documentation of concrete work.
- Participate in project coordination meetings, reviewing model progress, identifying field challenges, and communicating with stakeholders.
- Maintain clear and organized documentation, including constraint logs and coordination notes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering/Management, Architecture, or Engineering preferred; a 2‑year degree with relevant field experience acceptable.
- 2+ years of experience in concrete construction, VDC, or field engineering.
- Proficiency in Revit for modeling foundations, slabs, walls, and rebar systems.
- Experience with Autodesk Point Layout and Trimble field layout systems.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, and construction documents.
- Strong understanding of field sequencing, tolerances, and constructability.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Construction Cloud and Navisworks preferred.
- Ability to perform accurate and efficient work in both office and field environments.

- Willingness to travel or work on site as project needs require.
Salary range: $73,400 – $91,700 (base rate may vary by location and candidate qualifications). Additional compensation may include commission and/or incentive programs.
