Job Summary
Nordson Test & Inspection is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to be part of our R&D team, designing next‑generation high-precision electronics and semiconductor inspection sensors. The role requires taking ideas from concept to reality, from product conception to production, including design conceptualization, project planning, engineering implementation, testing, verification, transition to production, and documentation.
Responsibilities- Design electronic circuits for 3D measurement products that utilize machine vision and pattern projection.
- Interpret customer and internal product requirements and translate them into product specifications, risks, and design concepts.
- Perform risk reduction through feasibility studies of initial electronics concepts.
- Contribute to project planning by estimating tasks, resources, schedules, NRE, production costs, and manufacturing support.
- Develop electrical circuits utilizing FPGAs, micro‑processors, micro‑controllers, System On Modules (SOMs), low‑speed devices with I2C and SPI, and high‑speed devices like LPDDR
4. - Identify creative design solutions for challenging problems.
- Supervise PCB layout activities to meet challenging size, space, weight, and high‑speed board requirements.
- Implement FPGA logic using Verilog (preferred) or VHDL.
- Manage fabrication and testing of prototype and production electrical designs.
- Design and conduct verification testing against internal and external specifications.
- Develop manufacturing, calibration, and alignment processes.
- Transition new designs to manufacturing.
- Support existing products, customer issues, and supply‑chain issues.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
- BS in Electrical Engineering with 2+ years related experience.
- MS in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Take a new electronics design from conceptualization to schematic drawing, PCB layout, fabrication, verification testing, and transition to production.
- Skillful in FPGA hardware and HDL design, preferably with Xilinx/AMD toolset and Verilog.
- Expertise in digital and analog circuit design, including schematic capture.
- Experience with communication interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, USB, I2C, SPI, or RS-422.
- Hands‑on experience with embedded systems, micro‑controllers, and real‑time firmware – a plus.
- Knowledge of machine‑vision technologies such as CMOS imagers, DLP display projection, Coaxpress, Camera Link, or MIPI – a plus.
- Experience with power‑supply design and high‑power LED drive circuitry.
- Strong documentation skills encompassing schematic capture, PCB and BOM file management, theory of operation and design descriptions, test plans and results, and design issue logging and resolution.
- Knowledge of high‑speed and high‑density PCB layout, propagation and impedance calculations, and fabrication methods.
- PCB simulation knowledge is a plus.
- Ability to design electronics that meet international compliance standards like CE.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication.
- Self‑management, planning, multitasking, and teamwork in a multi‑disciplinary environment.
