What You'll DoThe R&D Engineering Intern will support new product design activities and production activation efforts for Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) connectivity solutions. This role provides hands‑on experience with prototype builds, CAD modeling, testing, and manufacturing documentation while working closely with R&D engineers and cross‑functional teams. The intern will contribute directly to two active R&D projects and gain exposure to the full product development lifecycle—from concept and design validation to production readiness.
R&DProject Support – New SPE Product Design
- Build and assemble functional prototypes for SPE cord sets and receptacles.
- Conduct electrical/mechanical testing on prototypes and document results accurately.
- Support the creation and revision of CAD models and engineering drawings for SPE components.
- Assist engineers with early‑phase design evaluations and design‑for‑manufacturability considerations.
- Assist with planning and maintaining “zero‑run” processes to ensure smooth manufacturing start‑up.
- Participate in product testing, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis activities.
- Create and update CAD drawings, manufacturing documents, and training materials for production readiness.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and R&D teams to transition designs from development into production.
Required:
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
- Foundational experience with CAD software (Solid Works, Creo, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Strong technical problem‑solving ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to build, test, and document product in a lab environment.
- Clear communication skills and ability to work within a team setting.
Preferred:
- Experience with prototype assembly, testing procedures, or engineering lab equipment.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings and GD&T standards.
- Interest in product development, electrical connectors, or Ethernet technologies.
- In addition to project-specific responsibilities, the intern will:
- Participate in a cross‑functional intern cohort project.
- Present both the department‑specific project and cohort project results to leadership.
- Attend development sessions and networking opportunities throughout the summer.
- Hands‑on product development experience with innovative SPE technologies.
- Exposure to the engineering design process from concept through production.
- Understanding of prototype build methods, testing protocols, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Practical CAD skills used in real engineering environments.
- Cross‑functional collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams.
