Job Title: Automated Inspection & Converting Engineer
Job DescriptionThis position allows transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. The Automated Inspection and Measurement group develops technology for automated inspection, measurement, machine vision, automation, and process data systems. The role involves designing, integrating, and commissioning smart converting systems and developing automated inspection systems.
Key Responsibilities- Design, integrate, and commission smart converting systems, with primary focus on fully automated slitters that ingest upstream inspection data for recipe management, cut planning, and dynamic control.
- Design and develop automated inspection systems using expertise in optics, image processing, and AI.
- Work within a team setting to solve manufacturing challenges.
- Support automated converting and inspection systems in a manufacturing environment, including travel to manufacturing locations and on-call support.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (completed and verified prior to start).
- Two (2) years of experience in either Process Engineering, vision technology, or converting technology role in a private, public, government or military environment.
- Experience equivalent to a master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related Engineering field.
- Experience in converting technology, including roll‑good slitting and automated slitting.
- Experience in process engineering within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Five (5) years of professional experience implementing automated inspection, machine vision, or automated converting/slitting systems.
- Experience with 3M custom web inspection or commercial web inspection systems.
- Experience in image processing, signal processing, optics, software, or electronics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, networking, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Onsite at 3M Center, Maplewood, MN.
- Travel may include up to 25% US & international, primarily to 3M manufacturing locations.

Benefits and CompensationCompensation range: $124,127 – $151,710 base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible.
