Position: Packaging & Labeling Engineer I

Description

Design and development of packaging and labeling for new products and modification to existing product packaging and labeling. Activities include labeling development and manufacture for new products, new product Sterile Barrier System design, development, testing and sourcing. This involves working with the technical design team and the customer to understand the product needs and ensure packaging performance and compliance with industry standards.

Interface with packaging vendors and creation of print packages.

Job Summary

Same responsibilities as in the Description section and participation in the execution of development projects as part of a multi‑functional project team.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as a member of the Product Development team, performing duties with support and mentorship from Principal Engineering and Senior Leadership.
  • Develop packaging and labeling product requirement specifications based on customer needs and applicable guidelines (industrial and government).
  • Specify and develop tests for product testing to determine acceptability of designs to requirements.
  • Author and execute packaging and labeling verification and validation protocols.
  • Quote and source materials and outside test services.
  • Coordinate work duties with project teams and management priorities.
  • Communicate progress and decisions to associates and functional manager.
Requirements Functional Knowledge
  • Familiarity with good engineering technique, documentation practices, and adherence to regulated standards.
  • Basic knowledge of common packaging materials and technologies.
  • Must be articulate and able to communicate effectively with peers and customers.
Education, Experience, Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in packaging engineering or related field (equivalent applicable work experience may be considered).
  • 0‑3 years’ experience in a regulated industry, preferably in medical devices.
  • Experience with programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Solid Works, Minitab, Enlabel, Bartender, or Label View a plus.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills to identify, gather, and analyze information, develop solutions and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Desire to learn and grow skillsets, maintain a growth mindset within a growing business.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to receive feedback and mentorship to achieve team goals.
  • Able to work in a fast‑paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to be flexible and handle multiple projects in an organized, timely manner.
  • Able to solve problems, work under pressure and manage stress effectively.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Able to travel to support projects and customer requirements less than 5% of the time.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Must wear gown, gloves, ear protection and other personal protective equipment as applicable.

Compensation
  • Typical base pay range for this role is between $70,000 and $85,000 per year. Compensation may vary based on individual skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
  • 401(k) Plan:
    Company‑provided Safe Harbor Contribution of 3% of eligible earnings.
