Position: Senior Civil Engineer (Renewables)

Senior Civil Engineer – Renewables

WSP is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer – Renewables to support our Power & Energy projects within the Site Development Civil Team – Renewable Energy. The primary location is Cincinnati, OH, with additional opportunities in Cleveland, OH;

Responsibilities
  • Drive renewable energy site development projects focused on solar, wind, and BESS facilities, and support behind-the-meter generation for commercial and industrial clients.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from the work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic studies, geotechnical reports, and other sources for project design and construction.
  • Conduct professional civil engineering work, including research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, infrastructure, and transportation channels, ensuring compliance with applicable rules, standards, permits, and regulations.
  • Lead development of permitting plans for various energy projects, including electrical transmission, solar, and onshore wind.
  • Oversee civil, erosion and sediment control, stormwater, and utility design work.
  • Prepare permit application documents, engineering design plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Manage staff and day‑to‑day operations.
  • Coordinate with clients and government agencies to secure necessary permits and approvals.
  • Oversee the scoping and execution of medium‑sized projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry‑level engineers.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of civil engineering techniques and best practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making in the use of company resources, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Conduct field visits with occasional overnight travel and rugged terrain work.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, or related engineering discipline.
  • At least 5 years of post‑education experience in renewable energy engineering and civil design.
  • Engineer in Training certification.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Project and task management experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of site grading, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment controls.
  • Understanding of stormwater permitting (NPDES) and familiarity with multi‑state regulations.
  • Knowledge of civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and record‑keeping practices.
  • Experience managing small to mid‑level projects, including hour and expense tracking.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for both engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Self‑leadership, attention to detail, and prior multitasking in a dynamic environment.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills for data analysis and decision making.
  • Ability to direct field teams and subcontractors safely and efficiently.
  • Travelable for occasional fieldwork and rugged terrain.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health and safety policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Past leadership on renewable energy site development projects and client interaction.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas, Ohio, or Illinois; NCEES record preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and related grading and earthworks concepts.
  • Previous staff management experience.

Compensation: Expected salary range (all locations): $90,600 – $149,500. Total compensation may vary based on experience, location, and qualifications.
