LHB is looking for a highly motivated Structural Engineer to join our Energy and Industry team. The position will be based in our Duluth or Minneapolis, Minnesota offices.
Position SummaryWe are seeking a Structural Engineer to support the Energy and Industry team by performing design calculations, supervising projects, and ensuring quality and compliance with client expectations.
Responsibilities- Work effectively in a hybrid work environment
- Prepare and review structural design calculations, drawings, and specifications
- Supervise other engineers, designers, and technicians
- Prepare or assist with proposals, track budgets and schedules, and forecast workloads
- Actively participate in virtual and in-person project and department team meetings
- Communicate with clients, contractors, engineers, architects and vendors
- Direct and review project drafting and design documentation
- Perform construction site visits and field observations, review RFIs and submittals
- Meet client objectives and exceed expectations
- Contribute to business development initiatives
- Prepare written technical reports
- Complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements including background check and drug screen
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program
- 6+ years of prior structural engineering experience, including concrete and steel design
- Professional Engineer licensure (and ability to become licensed in additional states upon request)
- Experience with industry, building, and design codes
- Valid driver’s license with ability to travel domestically, intermittently
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Mathcad, and structural analysis software such as RISA and/or STAAD
- Ability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and work outside in most weather conditions
- Passed 16‑hour Structural Engineering (SE) Exam
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, time‑management and problem‑solving skills
- Experience with pipeline, power delivery, mining, pulp and paper, or other industrial projects
- Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work with constantly changing priorities
- MSHA Certificate
- Attention to detail, quality, and accuracy
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and independently
- Good oral and written communication skills, including technical writing
- Base salary range $80,000–$115,000 annually (eligible for year‑end bonuses)
