Project Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Plastic Component Design Engineer with strong expertise in Solid Works CAD to design, develop, and optimize plastic components for manufacturing. The candidate will be responsible for end-to-end product design, ensuring compliance with functional, aesthetic, and manufacturability requirements while collaborating with cross-functional teams and coordination with offshore team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop plastic components and assemblies using Solid Works (3D modeling & 2D drawings)
  • Create detailed engineering drawings including GD&T, tolerances, and material specifications
  • Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) for injection molding and other plastic processes
  • Work closely with tooling, manufacturing, and quality teams during design validation and product launch
  • Conduct design reviews, feasibility studies, and risk analysis (FMEA)
  • Support prototype development, testing, and validation activities
  • Optimize designs for cost, weight reduction, and performance improvements
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory guidelines
  • Collaborate with vendors/toolmakers for mold design inputs and production readiness
  • Manage engineering documentation including BOMs, revision control, and design change requests

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong expertise in Solid Works (Part, Assembly, Surface modeling, Drafting)
  • Good understanding of plastic materials and selection (ABS, PP, PC, Nylon, etc.)
  • Knowledge of injection molding processes, tooling concepts, and shrinkage considerations
  • Proficiency in DFM/DFA guidelines for plastic parts
  • Familiarity with tolerance analysis and GD&T standards
  • Experience with simulation/analysis tools (optional – Moldflow, FEA, etc.)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Effective communication and cross-functional coordination ability

Qualifications

  • Experience in plastic component design (adjust as required)
  • Proven experience in consumer products, automotive, medical devices, or industrial components

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to mold design basics and tool development cycles
  • Experience in product validation, testing, and failure analysis
  • Knowledge of PLM systems (Windchill, Teamcenter, etc.)
  • Understanding of sustainability and recyclable plastic design

Key Deliverables

  • 3D CAD models and assemblies
  • 2D manufacturing drawings with GD&T
  • DFM reports and design validation documents
  • Engineering change documentation (ECR/ECN)
