Position Overview
Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE) is expanding its Electrical/I&C Designer team for projects in hyperscale data centers, water/wastewater, and campus/industrial energy sectors. The role supports projects throughout the US and Canada, collaborating with module fabrication and construction teams to deliver safe, cost‑effective, and innovative designs. Candidates should have at least 3 years of 3D modeling experience for electrical equipment or systems in industrial facilities or large buildings.
LocationThis position can be based in any Kiewit office:
Lenexa, KS;
Lone Tree, CO;
Bloomington, MN; or Houston, TX. Relocation assistance is offered only for the Lenexa, Kansas district office. For the Bloomington or Houston offices, we are seeking Senior Designers with 10+ years of experience.
- Utilize Revit 3D and Smartplant 3D design tools to draft drawings for electrical systems, including wiring, power distribution diagrams, schematics, circuit diagrams, raceway sizing and layout, cable management, grounding, lighting, and conduit layout.
- Apply codes and standards to complete assignments with minimal supervision.
- Identify changes in scope during small projects and produce design changes to stay within budget and schedule.
- Take initiative to meet or exceed quality and outcome expectations of internal and external customers.
- Perform assigned work efficiently and effectively, complying with company standards to produce quality deliverables.
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience (high school diploma plus 8+ years).
- Minimum 4 years of electrical or I&C design/drafting experience, with proficiency in 3D and 2D modeling (Revit, AutoCAD, Smart Plant 3D, Micro Station).
- Experience designing electrical or instrumentation and controls systems, producing P&IDs, one‑line diagrams, panel layouts, and electrical assemblies.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills; ability to collaborate across disciplines and coordinate with subcontractors.
- Knowledge of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE standards.
- Proficient in project management: managing multiple responsibilities, meeting deadlines, and presenting work clearly.
- Senior designers (10+ years) should demonstrate leadership of projects and teams, budget and schedule oversight.
- Regular, reliable attendance.
- Meet deadlines and work productively.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, employees, and stakeholders.
- Follow safety policies, equipment use, and written instructions.
- Work normal hours, with occasional overtime and weekends as required.
Base compensation: $70,000 – $125,000, subject to variation based on education, experience, skillset, and location.
