Position Overview:

As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer specializing in aerospace related motion control systems and precision mechanisms, you would manage the design, development, analysis, and qualification of flight-critical electro-mechanical systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop precision mechanisms such as gear trains, gimbals, and packaging solutions for electronic controllers. Apply an understanding of material sciences for materials used within aerospace applications (high strength steels, non-metallics, stainless steel etc.) as well as processing, plating and treatment of materials for demanding environment applications.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and production drawings with GD&T applied using Solidworks.
  • Perform tolerance stack-ups, kinematic, thermal, bearing and structural analyses.
  • Support design for cost. manufacturability, assembly, and test (DFMA/DTC/DFT).
  • Perform analysis of aerospace system life, MTBF, FMEA and FMECA’s.
  • Develop rotary and linear actuation systems using electric motors, gearboxes, lead screws, and position or velocity feedback. Interface with electrical engineering staff to provide closed loop system solutions.
  • Design and Support integration of motors, actuation and electronic controls
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to arrive at dynamic performance for applications
  • Perform dynamic, kinematic, structural, and thermal analyses
  • Define and support acceptance, qualification, acceptance, and lifecycle testing
  • Support environmental testing such as vibration, shock, and thermal vacuum
  • Interface with electrical, controls, systems, and manufacturing teams
  • Support flight hardware build, integration, testing and certification
  • Produce requirements, design review, and test documentation
  • Ensure compliance with NASA, MIL-STD, DO-160, MIL-STD-810 and FAA standards
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related. Completed graduate work is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years experience with flight-critical or high-reliability mechanical design
  • Customer presentation skills for new business capture and design reviews.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as Solid Works, Creo, NX, or CATIA
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, and FEA tools preferred
  • Strong understanding of mechanisms, motion control, and mechanical design principles; hands-on experience with assembly, integration, and testing.

This position is located in Eden Prairie, MN (not a remote position)
