Director of Environmental Services (Natural Resources, Permitting & Environmental Compliance)
We're partnering with a growing multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm to identify a Director of Environmental Services to lead an established environmental practice supporting infrastructure and land development projects throughout Minnesota.
This is a leadership-first opportunity for an experienced environmental professional who enjoys developing people, providing technical guidance, and helping teams succeed. You'll oversee an established team, set the strategic direction for the practice, and ensure high-quality project delivery while collaborating with leaders across the organization.
Please Note:
This position is focused on natural resources, environmental documentation, permitting, and environmental compliance
. It is not a remediation, contaminated sites, or water/wastewater leadership role.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to an established Environmental Services team, including 2 direct reports and a total team of 5 professionals
. - Foster employee growth through coaching, performance development, and career planning.
- Establish priorities, allocate resources, and ensure the team has the support needed to deliver exceptional work.
- Partner with firm leadership to grow and strengthen the environmental practice over time.
- Provide oversight for environmental services supporting transportation, municipal infrastructure, and land development projects.
- Balance project schedules, scope, budgets, and internal expectations across multiple initiatives.
- Ensure consistent technical quality and regulatory compliance across the team's work.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, planning, and project management teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and project partners.
- Participate in proposal development, scope preparation, and strategic pursuits.
- Represent the Environmental Services practice as a trusted technical leader while supporting the firm's continued growth.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive environmental consulting or related experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams and mentoring technical professionals.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working with regulatory agencies, project owners, and multidisciplinary project teams.
The ideal candidate brings broad environmental consulting experience with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following:
- Natural Resources
- Environmental Documentation (NEPA, MEPA, or similar frameworks)
Candidates should also have a strong understanding of environmental regulatory programs, including:
- Minnesota Wetland Conservation Act (WCA)
- Minnesota DNR Public Waters permitting
- Federal, state, municipal, and watershed district environmental regulations
Experience supporting projects in:
- Transportation
- Land development
- Public works
- Utilities (excluding water/wastewater treatment)
- Contaminated site investigation
- Brownfields
- Phase I or Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
- Hazardous waste cleanup
- Water or wastewater treatment consulting
