About the Position

As an Electrical Designer, you will be responsible for pre-engineering, modeling, and reporting power system studies utilizing SKM, providing electrical power, communication, and design services, along with supporting project schedules and quality control to achieve safe, high-quality, and efficient project outcomes.

Day in the Life
  • Reviews project assignments, schedules, and client requirements for upcoming arc flash, coordination, and short-circuit studies.
  • Performs pre-engineering assessments to verify system configuration, utility information, protective device coordination needs, and available fault current assumptions.
  • Develops and update electrical system models in SKM Power
    * Tools, including buses, transformers, switch gear, MCCs, panel boards, generators, and protective devices.
  • Validates model accuracy against construction drawings, equipment submittals, and field-collected data prior to analysis
  • Executes short-circuit, protective device coordination, and arc flash hazard analyses in accordance with NFPA 70E and IEEE 1584 methodologies.
  • Interprets study results to identify equipment with elevated incident energy levels and recommend mitigation strategies when required.
  • Creates and revises electrical one-line diagrams and supporting documentation in AutoCAD to reflect existing conditions and study updates.
  • Generates arc flash labels, coordination plots, and technical reports from SKM for client deliverables.
  • Coordinates with project managers, field technicians, and customer representatives to resolve discrepancies and obtain missing system information.
  • Participates in internal design and study review meetings to ensure technical accuracy, code compliance, and adherence to company standards.
  • Tracks project progress, maintains organized study files, and supports multiple concurrent customer projects with varying schedules and priorities.
  • Provide technical support during customer review meetings by explaining study findings, assumptions, and recommended corrective actions
  • Performs circuit layouts, electrical power, communication systems and lighting design services, job scheduling, job completion, quality control, problem resolution, coordination, job communication, job tracking and Company client satisfaction activities for assigned projects, to achieve safety, high quality, and efficiency of work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university or 2–5 years of experience in electrical power systems, consulting engineering, or industrial electrical engineering.
  • Working knowledge of electrical distribution systems from low voltage through medium voltage.
  • Experience performing or supporting arc flash, short-circuit, and protective device coordination studies.
  • Proficiency using SKM Power
    * Tools (or similar power system analysis software such as ETAP or Easy Power).
