The Powertrain Engineering Manager will lead the team responsible for the design, development, integration, validation, and continuous improvement of powertrain systems that define the performance and character of the world's premier American motorcycle.

This Portfolio Manager will oversee aglobalteam of Powertrainengineering leaderswhileproviding process execution direction, coaching, and Portfolio leadership across all engine platforms. Working closely with Vehicle Engineering, Calibration, Manufacturing, Validation, Purchasing, Quality,Industrial designand Supplier Engineering, this individual will ensure powertrain programs are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of performance, quality, durability, and customer satisfaction.

This leader will drive efficiency in the product development process through process engineering and continuous improvement, while supporting senior leadership on Long Range Product Plan alignment in close partnership with the Product team.

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader who enjoys developing people as much as developing products in a global Team, while fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, directs, and monitors design and development programs from concept to production to achieve product objectives within a specified time schedule.
  • Leads cross-functional global teams of internal and external resources to meet program, product, and portfolio objectives.
  • Establishes and manages the platform program plans to support the Long Range Product Plan (LRPP) developed with the product planning team.
  • Partner with Vehicle leadership for Integration, Calibration, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, Supplier Development, and Validation teams to deliver integrated vehicle solutions.
  • Champions and develop the Indian Motorcycle product development process and project management best practices within the team to execute programs.
  • Establishes targets for platform project costs, part costs, and tool costs. Tracks and reports on the costs throughout the project.
  • Oversees platform development, testing, design, and validation efforts to ensure project objectives are met per schedule and budget.
  • Develops and manages planned changes and cost enhancement opportunities for applicable platforms.
  • Tracks technology development trends, industrial design trends, and competitive product development trends to help identify and anticipate future opportunities and competitive threats.
  • Reports to product groups, management teams, and Indian Motorcycle senior management to keep them informed of trends and implications.
  • Develops, maintains, and manages platform strategies and aligns to the division’s product, manufacturing, and sourcing strategies.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of Powertrain Engineers.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and innovative engineering culture.
  • Establish performance expectations, conduct performance reviews, and support employee development plans.
  • Develop departmental goals aligned with broader Motorcycle Engineering objectives.
  • Lead department budget planning, resource forecasting, and capital planning activities.
  • Signs off at Gate reviews when applicable, major milestones, and project status meetings.
  • Supports product introductions to press, dealers, and consumers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive international multimillion dollar product development experience, including powertrain engineering.
  • Excellent project planning, execution, and organization skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management, facilitation, and presentation skills at all levels.
  • Strong understanding of DFMEA, DVP&R, APQP, GD&T, engineering change management, and product development processes.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo with a focus on time and cost efficiency.
  • Ability to lead direct reports and indirectly motivate and influence others at all levels.
