Motion Control | Precision Mechanisms | Flight-Critical Systems Position Overview

Shadin Avionics is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of flight‑critical electromechanical systems used in aerospace and defense applications.

This is not a traditional product design or manufacturing engineering role. We are looking for an engineer with demonstrated experience designing precision mechanisms, motion control systems, and high‑reliability aerospace hardware from concept through qualification and production.

The ideal candidate has experience developing aerospace electromechanical assemblies involving motors, gear trains, bearings, actuators, and electronic controls while working in highly regulated environments.

• Lead the mechanical design of flight‑critical electromechanical systems and precision mechanisms.
• Design gear trains, actuation systems, gimbals, housings, and packaging for aerospace applications.
• Develop rotary and linear motion control systems utilizing BLDC motors, gearboxes, lead screws, encoders, and feedback devices.
• Perform tolerance stack analyses, structural, thermal, dynamic, and kinematic analyses.
• Conduct reliability analyses including MTBF, FMEA, and FMECA.
• Design for manufacturability, assembly, testing, and long‑term reliability.
• Support environmental qualification testing including vibration, shock, thermal, and environmental testing.
• Collaborate closely with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and systems engineering teams.
• Support hardware integration, qualification, certification, and transition into production.
• Present technical solutions during customer design reviews and support new business pursuits.
• Produce engineering documentation including requirements, test plans, design reviews, and qualification reports.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• 7–10+ years of experience designing high‑reliability electromechanical systems within the aerospace or defense industry.
• Demonstrated experience with flight‑critical or mission‑critical mechanical design.
• Strong background in precision mechanisms, motion control, bearings, gears, actuators, and mechanical system integration.
• Proficiency with Solid Works, Creo, NX, or CATIA.
• Experience performing engineering analyses including tolerance stack‑ups, structural, thermal, and kinematic analysis.
• Experience supporting qualification and environmental testing.

• Experience with BLDC motors and motion control systems.
• Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, and finite element analysis.
• Experience with FAA, DO‑160, MIL‑STD‑810, NASA, or other aerospace qualification standards.
• Graduate degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
