We are seeking a Department Leader &
Senior Electrical Project Engineer to lead our Minneapolis Electrical Department while playing a key role in the design and delivery of innovative, high-performing projects.

In this dual leadership and technical role, you will guide multidisciplinary project teams, lead the design of complex electrical systems, and partner with clients to deliver exceptional outcomes. As Department Leader, you will drive business performance, develop and mentor team members, advance technical excellence, and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. It is expected that this role will establish strategic direction for the department, build and sustain a high-performing team, and ensure alignment with office, practice, and firm-wide priorities while remaining actively engaged in project work.

You will work alongside other electrical leadership at HGA as we continue to build our National Electrical Engineering presence.

Serving as a trusted advisor to clients and colleagues, you will provide technical leadership on complex engineering challenges, support the development of engineering talent, and help advance standards, best practices, and innovation across the firm. This role requires sound professional judgment, strong business acumen, and the ability to influence outcomes at both the project and organizational level.

Strategy & Discipline Leadership

  • Set direction for the department aligned with firm and practice priorities.
  • Advance design quality, best practices, and knowledge sharing.
  • Position the department for future growth and capability development.
  • Work collaboratively with electrical engineering leadership in other offices to create standards, protocols and quality for the electrical engineering group.

Business & Operational Performance

  • Manage utilization, profitability, and staffing alignment.
  • Align resources to support project delivery and client outcomes.
  • Monitor performance and address risks proactively.

Talent Leadership & Development

  • Build and develop a high-performing team through hiring, coaching, and retention.
  • Lead performance review, promotion, compensation, and succession processes.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, growth, and inclusion.

Collaboration & Leadership Alignment

  • Partner across departments, offices, and practice groups on shared priorities.
  • Contribute to firm-wide initiatives and cross-disciplinary efforts.

As a Senior Electrical Project Engineer, you will:

Project Leadership & Technical Oversight

  • Lead the electrical engineering scope for large, complex, and strategically significant projects through all phases of planning, design, documentation, and construction.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Establish engineering approaches, design strategies, and technical direction for complex project challenges.
  • Oversee engineering analyses, calculations, specifications, and construction documentation to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance.
