Day in the Life

This posting is intended for candidates attending the 2026 National S HPE Convention in Indianapolis, IN.

Our summer internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid positions lasting 10-11 weeks. We offer competitive compensation, educational and social programming throughout the summer, as well as housing assistance and relocation support for eligible interns.

Location and Work Model

Most internship positions are based at primary hubs in Minnesota, California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, with additional opportunities available in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, and Texas. Candidate location preferences are strongly considered during the interview and offer process; however, flexibility increases the number of potential opportunities available. All interns must reside in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.

Interns are expected to work onsite a minimum of 4 days per week and participate in full time, 40 hours per week, as part of the intern cohort from June 1 through August 13 for semester system programs or June 14 through August 20 for quarter system programs.

Required Qualifications
  • Working toward a bachelor's or master's degree in biomedical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline with an anticipated graduation date of Winter 2027, Spring 2028, Winter 2028, or Spring 2029.
  • Applicants for Medtronic's Summer Internship Program must be currently authorized to work in the United States. Medtronic does not sponsor work authorization for internship positions. Individuals on temporary visa classifications, including E, F-1 (CPT or OPT), H-1, H-2, L, B, J, or TN, as well as anyone who requires employment sponsorship now or in the future, are not eligible for the Program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in manufacturing, operations, process improvement, industrial engineering, or product support through internships, academic projects, research, laboratory work, or relevant work experience.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, Six Sigma methodologies, process mapping, root cause analysis, or process optimization.
  • Experience analyzing operational, manufacturing, quality, or engineering data.
  • Experience creating technical documentation, engineering reports, project summaries, standard work instructions, or presentations.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
