Electrical Designer
IMEG is hiring an Electrical Designer in Minneapolis, MN to support the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems in buildings. In this role, you will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants to develop engineering solutions and advice that help deliver positive outcomes for clients.
You will contribute to project budgets, planning, documentation, quality control, and multidisciplinary coordination while supporting consulting projects from design through delivery. You will be part of a team with a healthcare and MEP focus that also supports education work, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP
2050 and AIA
2030.

What You'll Do
- Assist in the design and analysis of electrical systems for buildings using engineering software and tools.
- Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards.
- Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively.
- Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication.
- Support consulting projects as part of a project team, including project planning and scheduling tasks to help meet deadlines and objectives.
- Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.
- Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical, efficient solutions.
- Participate in IMEG quality control processes to help ensure designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements.
- Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
- Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work, identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with electrical systems, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.
What You'll Bring
Required
Experience
- 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
- Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
- Knowledge of industry standard engineering software and tools, including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, or similar; energy compliance software such as Com Check; familiarity with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu; and proficiency in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and CTC Revit Add-In Tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays

Education and Experience
- Associates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred

- Broad MEP-focused portfolio with a strong emphasis on education and healthcare work. It is especially active in HVAC and electrical design, along with plumbing, fire protection, and construction administration on more coordinated project efforts.
- The team also shows a meaningful amount of assessment, study, and survey work, plus selective technology, commissioning, energy modeling, and master planning when projects need a wider planning or renovation scope. Overall, the team looks strongest in building systems upgrades, renovation support, and facility study work across institutional and healthcare environments.
