Senior Electrical Engineering Technician - Substation P&C Designer

Protection & Controls professionals contribute to the design of substation protection, control, monitoring, and communication systems, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of high-voltage electrical substations.

The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Senior Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering 2D and 3D deliverables for complex substation infrastructure projects. Under minimal supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of protection and control engineering principles and design practices, with a focus on creating and modifying detailed design drawings using advanced techniques in industry-standard design tools such as Bentley Micro Station, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Electrical.

This role requires the ability to develop engineering deliverables including protection and control schematics, AC and DC elementary diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, relay panel arrangements, interconnection drawings, and substation communication system designs. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of industry standards, project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements while collaborating with engineers, designers, and project teams to deliver accurate, constructible, and reliable design packages.

Experience with substation protection and control systems, relay applications, SCADA integration, and station communication networks is highly desirable. The candidate should possess a strong attention to detail and the ability to support projects throughout the design lifecycle, from conceptual development through construction support and project closeout.

establishing and communicating appropriate design and graphic standards; reviewing project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content; promoting quality and consistency across projects, groups, and sections; reviewing design inputs to ensure alignment and consistency; ensuring deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards; managing drawing control and maintaining historical project records; applying engineering principles and established design practices to complex designs;
