Lake Superior Consulting (LSC) is seeking an Electrical Engineer II / III to join our growing engineering team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of energy and industrial projects, including oil and gas, power generation, utilities, renewables.

Responsibilities
  • Perform CAD design and drafting duties to assist engineers in the design of electrical and control systems.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and technicians to complete the design of large and complex industrial systems.
  • Lead moderate to large-sized projects and make decisions and recommendations on technical or complex issues, as experience and project assignment warrant.
  • Exercise judgment and initiative in interpreting policies and planning and implementing work assignments.
  • Work with the project team to create design documents and drawings, including one- and three-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, communications diagrams, wiring diagrams, plan views, station layout plans, sections, detail drawings, and application of mark-ups for projects.
  • Develop specifications for the procurement, installation, and testing of electrical equipment.
  • Perform engineering calculations, studies, detailed design, report writing, field investigations, and construction support.
  • Provide design and design review support and direction to lower-level engineers and/or designers, as appropriate to the position level and experience.
  • Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as ground grid design, equipment sizing, relay coordination, and electrical studies.
  • Participate in field wiring and testing of electrical and controls circuits, working with both the design and commissioning teams at LSC.
  • Assist with the preparation of survey and design reports and final project reports.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with the project lead, customer representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks, and work with the Lead Engineer to develop contingency plans.
  • Interact frequently with clients, vendors, and contractors.
  • Recommend modifications to senior personnel for approval when appropriate.
  • For Engineer III-level assignments, provide greater technical leadership and direction on projects and design activities based on experience and demonstrated capability.
Position Requirements Education, Certifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a similar engineering discipline.
  • Engineer II:
    Typically, 1–3+ years of related engineering experience.
  • Engineer III:
    Typically, 3+ years of related engineering experience.
  • EIT license is preferred.
  • PE license a plus particularly for Engineer III-level candidates.
  • Practical or hands-on experience in power, control, and communications systems preferred.
  • Direct experience related to power plants and substation design is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the application of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Knowledge and understanding of electrical safety systems and NFPA 70E.
  • Field experience supporting projects that are in construction is a plus.
  • Instrumentation and control (I&C) design experience, including SCADA, control systems, control panels, instrument specification, network architectures, PLC design, and control strategies, is a plus.
  • Broad electrical engineering background, including experience with control systems and/or motor control centers, is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% with possible field engineering support for extended periods.
