Director of Water Resources

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Water Resources leader to guide and grow an established team of engineers and technical specialists. This newly created leadership position offers the opportunity to shape the future direction of a growing Water Resources practice while leading talented professionals and expanding client relationships across the transportation and municipal sectors. This role is ideal for a seasoned Water Resources professional with expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, drainage design, stormwater management, and transportation infrastructure who is interested in both technical leadership and business growth.

What

You'll Do Strategic Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead and manage an established Water Resources team, providing vision, direction, and mentorship.
  • Collaborate with project managers and technical leaders to balance workloads, schedules, and resource allocation.
  • Foster staff development through coaching, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Drive strategic planning efforts to expand service offerings and market presence.
Technical Project Leadership
  • Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of water resources projects.
  • Lead technical efforts involving:
    • Stormwater management
    • Drainage system design
    • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
    • Floodplain management
    • Erosion and sediment control
  • Provide quality oversight and ensure projects meet client expectations, budgets, and schedules.
  • Serve as a technical resource for complex transportation and municipal infrastructure projects.
Business Development & Client Management
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand Water Resources services.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with public and private sector clients.
  • Prepare proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and project approaches.
  • Support marketing efforts and contribute to long‑term growth strategies.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and professional organizations.
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain licensure in the applicable state.
  • Approximately 15+ years of Water Resources Engineering experience. Exceptional candidates with 10-15 years of experience will also be considered.
  • Strong background in hydrology, hydraulics, drainage design, and stormwater management.
  • Experience delivering Water Resources solutions for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with state DOT design standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience utilizing drainage design and hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, schedules, and client expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience leading teams, departments, or technical groups.
  • Transportation and municipal consulting experience.
  • Proven business development experience, including proposal development and project pursuits.
  • Established client relationships and a track record of securing new work.
  • Experience growing Water Resources services and expanding market presence.
