Primary Responsiblities/

Position Overview:

This position is an hourly position that is primarily responsible for the stage management of designated events in the Ted Mann Concert Hall in the School of Music at the University of Minnesota. The individual in this position reports to and is supervised by the Production Coordinator. This position works with faculty, staff, students, external customers and outside professionals to provide the best services possible for productions in the concert hall or other School of Music venues.

(65%) Stage-manage designated events in the Ted Mann Concert Hall and auxiliary spaces. This includes supervising the assigned stage crew for the event, overseeing all operational logistics before, during and after the event. Supervise and facilitate the renters in their production needs for their event through effective communication. Coordinate production information and relevant changes with other staff and stage crew. Also arrange and facilitate the security and placement of the concert hall equipment (towers, pianos, curtains, etc).

Oversee the operation of the light board, follow spots, fly system, stage lifts and any other resident equipment during set-up, strike and events. Also being prepared to step in to substitute all stage/lighting crew positions as necessary. Arrange for security and placement of stage properties, stores and maintains properties and equipment. Direct the crew in the safe and effective operation of all stage equipment and in proper performance procedures.

If there is an issue, file an accident report form. Assist the technical coordinator with the training and supervision of the 4-10 member (student and non-student) stage crew and provide feedback of their work performance. Be able to make routine and emergency repairs to properties and equipment. Serve as the lead in an emergency situation in the hall. Secure the building after events according to established procedures.

Document events worked in a show report communicating any concerns or issues that should be addressed. Share information needed to bill for event worked.

(24%) Participate in the technical operation of the facility. This includes assisting in the technical operations of the Ted Mann Concert Hall and Ferguson Hall for performances and other events (concerts, recitals, operas, lectures, seminars, conferences, recording sessions and rehearsals. Assist with the general maintenance and organization of the technical spaces in Ted Mann and Ferguson Hall. Participate and supervise student workers in the set-up, clean-up and maintenance of the facilities.

(10%) Other Duties that include but are not limited to directing the stage crew and renters in the safe and effective operation of all stage equipment and in proper performance procedures and assisting other team members in accomplishing their goals.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years of college training in technical theatre or relevant professional theatre. Training in carpentry and electrical trades or the equivalent in experience; computer skills (Micro Soft Office and Google Drive); ability to lift 50 pounds; ability to climb and operate effectively on ladders, personal lifts, catwalks and grids.
