About the Job

We are hiring a Senior IT Auditor II (Job Opening ) or a Principal IT Auditor (Job Opening ). Depending on qualifications and experience, you may be hired into one of the following jobs with the respective benefits package. The Senior IT Auditor II position is responsible for performing internal audit work throughout the University of Minnesota. The University encompasses diverse activities including academic support, sponsored research, large-scale business operations, health care, athletics, and municipal/utility operations.

Work will include audits of University units and processes, investigations, and other special projects. Four or more years of relevant IT audit experience are expected, with proficiency in standards set by the Institute of Internal Auditors. Hybrid work arrangements are available (some remote, some in-person). This position can be based at the University of Minnesota Duluth or Twin Cities, with system-wide responsibilities for all locations.

Essential

Responsibilities
  • (~40%) Perform IT audit testing of University units and processes to evaluate internal control, risk management, and governance with limited guidance. Assess whether risks are identified and managed, actions are in compliance with policies and laws, resources are used efficiently, programs objectives are achieved, quality and continuous improvement are fostered, and regulatory issues are addressed.
  • (~25%) Communicate audit results verbally and in writing. Develop findings and recommendations, discuss results with clients, apply audit judgment, draft initial audit reports, and ensure recommendations are actionable and cost-effective with proper root-cause analysis.
  • (~15%) Engage in engagement management for medium and low risk audits, including supervising staff, ensuring work quality and compliance with professional standards, coaching staff, and coordinating with management.
  • (~20%) Plan IT audits using a risk-based approach, collect background material, summarize discoveries, and draft engagement letters, audit programs, time budgets, and work schedules.
Other Responsibilities
  • Follow up on prior recommendations, complete professional development activities, review audit evidence in investigations, and perform non-IT audit work when applicable.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and four or more years of audit experience, with a major in accounting, finance, management, IT management, or related emphasis preferred.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CISA, CPA, CIA, CFE) and/or an advanced degree is highly desired; CISA preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.) and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understanding of standard IT Audit principles, including IT General Controls.
  • Knowledge of IT systems and security audit principles and techniques (server/database reviews) is highly desired.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail; working knowledge of University processes and policies is desirable.
  • Experience with People Soft systems is desirable; advanced data analytics skills (SQL, Tableau) are desired and expected to develop.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $85,000 to $95,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience
