Senior Income Tax Analyst
Position Summary Assist the Director or Manager, Income Tax Compliance & Accounting in filing corporate federal and state income tax returns and extensions, computing estimated tax payments, and reporting income tax accruals.
Essential Responsibilities- Participate at a higher technical level in determining monthly tax accruals to ensure compliance with IRS, GAAP, Sarbanes‑Oxley, and regulatory income‑tax accounting requirements.
- Assist in preparation of all required federal consolidated and state income tax returns and claims for refund to ensure accurate and timely filing and minimize tax liability.
- Prepare quarterly estimated federal and state income tax payments in a manner that minimizes company cash requirements, including allocation among affiliated companies.
- Prepare or assist in preparing estimates and projections of income taxes for budgeting, rate filings, and cash forecasts.
- Keep abreast of current changes in tax laws, regulations, and rulings, informing management of their nature and effect and, when appropriate, recommend courses of action.
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- Four years’ experience in income tax compliance and accounting.
Note:
Candidates with a Master's Degree or certifications such as CPA, CMA, CFA, or related professional background may receive credit toward the required experience.
Relevant experience includes:
- Current and deferred income tax accruals and financial statement presentation.
- Consolidated federal and unitary state tax return preparation.
- Estimated federal and state income tax payment calculations.
- Income tax research and analysis referencing authoritative tax literature.
Position Summary Lead and coordinate the Income Tax Compliance & Accounting group’s efforts to provide accurate and timely income tax reporting and analysis through efficient processes, while providing high‑level technical expertise and leadership on all income‑tax accounting matters.
Essential Responsibilities- Participate at a high technical level in computing, recording, and documenting current and deferred tax accruals to ensure compliance with IRS, GAAP, regulatory requirements, and Sarbanes‑Oxley provisions.
- Coordinate department efforts and consolidate results.
- Coordinate and assist with audit of income taxes by external financial auditors.
- Coordinate preparation and timely filing of all federal and state income tax returns; review returns, prepare consolidations where applicable, and assist with analysis of results.
- Demonstrate in‑depth knowledge of federal, state, and applicable international income‑tax laws and regulations.
- Coordinate review of quarterly estimated federal and state income tax payments to minimize company cash requirements.
- Represent the company to tax authorities regarding tax return matters through the audit process, providing timely responses to IDRs and coordinating other efforts to keep ongoing audits current.
- Facilitate resolution of audit issues to attain the lowest fair tax payable.
- Provide in‑depth research, experience, and creative thinking to assess facts, alternatives, and strategies.
- Direct day‑to‑day activities of income‑tax analysts and senior analysts, and assist in coordinating overall activities of the group.
- Solicit assistance and manage projects involving external consultants when possible.
- Keep abreast of current changes in tax laws, regulations, and rulings, informing management of their nature and effect and recommending appropriate courses of action.
- Monitor and evaluate initiatives and trends that impact the industry; develop and maintain contacts inside and outside the company for tax‑minimization opportunities.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- 4–7 years of related experience with large corporate income taxes.
- Ability to effectively communicate information and recommendations to management.
- Proficiency at giving and receiving information in individual or group situations.
