Job Overview

As a Tax Supervisor, you will oversee the day‑to‑day workflow and client‑facing activities of the tax compliance team. You will review complex tax returns—primarily individual returns, alongside S corporation and partnership engagements—ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable regulations. You will manage relationships with assigned clients, serving as a primary point of contact and trusted advisor. You will also take on a return‑signing responsibility, bringing strong technical expertise in tax law, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform final preparation and review of complex federal, state, and local tax returns (individual, corporate, S corporation, partnership), ensuring accuracy and compliance with tax laws and firm standards.
  • Communicate tax results, implications, and planning strategies clearly and effectively with clients.
  • Manage workflow across assigned tax engagements, ensuring deadlines are met and deliverables are completed efficiently, particularly during peak seasons.
  • Coordinate resources and prioritize tasks to support timely and high‑quality client service.
  • Serve as a technical resource on complex tax matters.
  • Conduct and oversee tax research, documenting conclusions and recommendations for internal and client‑facing use.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff and senior accountants, providing guidance, feedback, and support for professional growth.
  • Promote adherence to firm standards, best practices, and quality expectations.
  • Oversee quarterly and annual tax provision calculations, ensuring accurate financial reporting and related disclosures.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve tax processes, workflows, and technology utilization, supporting operational efficiency initiatives and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
What You’ll Bring
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA certification preferred or in progress;
    Enrolled Agent status required. A Master’s in Taxation (MTax) is a plus.
  • Experience:

    Minimum of 4‑6 years of progressive tax accounting experience, including at least 1‑2 years in a supervisory, senior, or team‑lead capacity. Must have managed client engagements and signed tax returns in the past.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Strong proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., Drake, CCH Axcess, Ultra Tax, GoSystem) and tax research platforms. Advanced Excel skills essential.
  • Soft Skills:

    Leadership—proven ability to lead, delegate, and provide guidance to junior staff;
    Analytical & Problem‑Solving—superior analytical ability and critical‑thinking skills;
    Communication—excellent written and verbal communication skills for team management and client interactions.

  • Base salary of $100,000‑$120,000 plus discretionary bonus (exact base salary amount dependent on experience)
