Overview
Advent Talent Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to join a high-impact Finance team, responsible for supporting the organization’s financial health through accurate reporting, strong operational execution, and continuous process improvement. Our client is a well-established, mission-driven nonprofit serving families across the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. This role offers broad exposure across all areas of accounting and finance and is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and excited to contribute to a meaningful mission while helping enhance systems and processes.
Schedule: Full-time
Compensation: $50–$65/hour
Location: Minneapolis, MN (near the University of Minnesota – fully on‑site)
Employment Type: Contract (minimum 2‑month), with potential for permanent hire
Responsibilities- Manage core accounting functions including journal entries, accruals, month‑end close, and balance sheet/bank reconciliations
- Oversee full‑cycle accounts payable and receivable, including vendor management, donor pledges, and 1099 reporting
- Process and track donations and revenue streams, ensuring accurate reconciliation between donor systems and financial records
- Prepare financial reporting, including financial statements, variance analysis, and departmental allocation reporting
- Support audit activities and assist with annual Form 990 preparation
- Manage cash flow processes, including credit card reconciliations, deposits, and lockbox activity
- Strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and reporting efficiencies
- Partner cross‑functionally and support leadership with financial insights, with potential to contribute to Board‑level reporting
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required (CPA or CPA‑eligible strongly preferred)
- 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with strong ownership of full‑cycle accounting processes
- Proven experience managing month‑end close, financial reporting, and balance sheet integrity with minimal oversight
- Strong understanding of GAAP and experience applying technical accounting concepts in a practical setting
- Experience in nonprofit or fund accounting environment strongly preferred
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis) and experience with accounting/ERP systems (Blackbaud or similar preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and support system implementations or transitions
- Strong communication and business partnering skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to leadership or non‑finance stakeholders
