About the Job
We are hiring an Auditor (job opening IDs: 372438, 372429, 372430) at varying levels. Depending on qualifications and experience, you will be hired into one of the relevant auditor roles with the corresponding benefits package. This is a hybrid position and may be based at the University of Minnesota Duluth or the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, with system-wide responsibilities for all locations and activities.
This position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship and does not offer a STEM OPT training program.
General Summary
The Auditor position is responsible for performing internal audit work across the University of Minnesota, which includes academic support, sponsored research, large-scale business operations, health care, athletics, municipal/utility operations, and other processes. Assignments vary in complexity and size and include audits, investigations, and special projects. Work is typically defined and performed under supervision, with scope, testing, and reporting decisions directed by supervisors or directors.
Essential Responsibilities
- Employees comply with policies, standards, procedures, and applicable laws.
- Resources are acquired economically, used efficiently, and adequately protected.
- Programs, plans, and objectives are achieved.
- Significant legislative or regulatory issues are recognized and addressed.
- Risks are identified and managed by process owners and/or University management.
- Developing and documenting findings and recommendations that address risks and conclusions.
- Meeting with audit clients to discuss preliminary results.
- Using appropriate audit judgment to evaluate significance and risk of issues.
Other Responsibilities
- Follow up to determine the status of prior recommendations.
- Gather, review and assess audit evidence in investigations of misconduct.
- Complete training and activities to maintain professional skills.
- Perform basic IT-related audit work (e.g., physical security, change control, access controls, disaster recovery, application reviews).
The above work should be carried out by:
- Using accepted audit procedures and documenting controls, risk management, and governance processes.
- Documenting internal controls and business practices through questionnaires, interviews, flowcharts, data analytics, and testing of transactions.
- Collecting and analyzing transactions, documents, reports to form conclusions on controls’ effectiveness.
- Preparing detailed, clearly labeled work papers; exhibiting flexibility in daily tasks and schedule; working well in teams or independently as needed.
The results are reported to the highest levels at the University, including the President and Board of Regents Audit Committee. The work product is public data and may be reviewed by external parties. This role may involve handling sensitive and confidential information.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field, or a combination of education and work experience totaling 4 years
Preferred Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., People Soft) financial, HR, and student components.

Salary range: $55,000-$70,000 per year, depending on education and experience. Time appointment: 100%.
