Our client, a large, national general contractor licensed across all 50 states, specializing in commercial building, retail, and facilities maintenance, is seeking an Accounting Manager to join their Accounting & Finance Team.
The Accounting Manager has a critical role, managing the daily operation of the accounting department and collaborating with other departments. This role is responsible for managing accounting systems while ensuring a strong understanding of operational systems and data. They will work alongside project management teams in our operations department and assist with financial analysis for the VP of Finance.
Financial Reporting & Analysis- Prepare monthly financial statements and quarterly debt covenant reports.
- Post journal entries for the month‑end close process related to assigned GL accounts.
- Analyze financial data (budgets, forecasts, and variance reports) to provide insights and recommendations to VP of Finance.
- Support year‑end income tax reporting and coordinate annual CPA audits.
- Monitor daily cash flow and perform bank account reconciliations.
- Lead the accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
- Assist in preparation of annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting.
- Responsible for weekly payroll processing.
- Reconcile employee benefits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Oversee employee expense reimbursement process.
- Adhere to internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory filings, annual reporting, and corporate insurance audits.
- Oversee preparation of 1099s and other year‑end tax form submissions.
- Maintain Work in Progress (WIP) Report for all active projects/contracts.
- Communicate and collaborate with project management teams on project status, client‑specific items and areas of concern for project completion.
- Oversee job costing processes, ensuring accurate allocation of revenue and expense to projects.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within the accounting department and implement best practices.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with financial reporting standards.
- Perform ad hoc reporting and other duties as assigned.
- Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and the ability to influence and work as a team.
- Excellent leadership and management skills with a high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and exercise good judgment when appropriate.
- Expertise in construction accounting, job costing, and GAAP revenue recognition.
- Ability to build relationships with critical thinking skills.
- Effective communication, both written and verbal, with attention to detail.
- Ability to learn new systems quickly and possess a continuous improvement mindset.
- Strong organizational skills and experience managing multiple projects concurrently in a fast‑paced environment, demonstrating a sense of urgency.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- 7+ years of accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in the construction industry.
- Experience processing payroll and reconciling/administering employee benefit accounts.
- Experience in multi‑jurisdiction payroll/sales tax reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with ERP accounting systems.
- In‑office role 5 days per week.
- Able to sit or stand for long periods while working at a computer.
- Employees must be able to lift 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects.
- Pay range is $100,000 - $125,000 per year plus benefits.
