TheOpportunity
We are hiring a Controller to run the entire finance and accounting function for the company. We are in a growth mode, and this role is central to scaling the business. You will run the finance and accounting department, set the standard, and have a clear, earned path to Chief Financial Officer as you prove yourself.
You will inherit an existing, highly capable accounting team and be responsible for leading, managing, and developing that team. We are looking for a top-tier financial leader and we are prepared to compensate accordingly.
You will report directly to the Owner and the President.
What You Will Own- Full responsibility for the accounting and finance function, including the monthly close, financial reporting, and the integrity of the books
- Leadership and management of an established, highly capable accounting team, including their continued development
- Cash and accrual reporting, GAAP financial statements, and management reporting that leadership can run the business on
- Cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Property-level and corporate accounting across a large multifamily portfolio
- Banking, treasury, audit, and tax coordination with outside advisors
- Internal controls, process improvement, and systems
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- CPA strongly preferred, but not required
- Advanced degree (MBA or Master's in Accounting) a plus, but not required
- 7+ years of progressive accounting leadership, including time in a Controller or senior accounting role
- Proven experience leading, managing, and developing an accounting team
- Multifamily, property management, or real estate accounting experience strongly preferred
- Deep command of GAAP, the monthly close, and financial statement preparation
- Hands‑on experience with both cash and accrual reporting
- Experience with property management accounting systems;
Rent Manager is a plus - Track record of building and scaling finance functions in a high‑growth environment a plus
- Embraces and actively explores the use of AI and technology to drive efficiency and quality across the finance function
- Comfortable reporting directly to ownership and operating with full accountability
- In‑person position at our Fridley office. Hours are Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm
- Strong technical accounting and GAAP expertise
- Financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Team leadership and people development
- Advanced Excel and financial systems proficiency
- Curiosity and fluency with AI tools to increase efficiency and improve quality of output
- Sharp analytical skills with a high bar for accuracy and detail
- Clear communicator with ownership and leadership
- Process improvement, internal controls, and systems mindset
- A 95+ year track record paired with a company in active high‑growth mode

- Compensation range: $100,000 -$150,000 plus discretionary annual bonus
