Overview
Security Assistant for Police Service – Minneapolis, Minnesota – Veterans Health Administration. Responsible for monitoring physical security equipment and systems, responding to alarms, and supporting dispatch operations.
Responsibilities- Monitors and responds to alarms; traces access patterns, programs systems, assigns or removes user permissions, and remotely opens and secures doors during routine and emergency operations.
- Maintains radio/alarm activity records and logs, prepares completed reports, issues and retrieves government‑issued keys and identification cards, and holds accountability for Police Officer badges and associated logs.
- Monitors and receives routine and emergency calls for police, fire, medical, or other emergency services; maintains contact with law‑enforcement units; directs responses to security and life‑safety communications, including radio dispatches and telephone calls.
- Coordinates with federal, state, and local law‑enforcement officials for emergency situations; operates communications equipment, telephones, and computer systems to support both routine and emergency operations.
- Performs system checks on dispatch‑center equipment, troubleshoots problems, and resolves issues wherever possible.
- Conducts equipment inventories, completes records and logs, and updates and retrieves information from computer systems and databases.
- Uses the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC) to access sensitive law‑enforcement information; enters or updates regional and national records.
- Compiles and prepares reports related to events occurring in the operation of the police control center; completes vehicle registration tasks and issues decals and permits.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Full‑time, 12‑hour shifts on a Panama schedule: 06:00–18:00 or 18:00–06:00. Schedule discussed during the interview process.
Requirements- U.S. Citizen.
- Minimum 1 year of specialized experience at the GS‑04 grade level in a related occupation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to meet GS‑05 requirements.
- Experience may include: use of computer and automation systems, data entry, report preparation, database maintenance, confidentiality maintenance, and communication skills with internal and external customers.
- Education:
at least 4 years of education above high‑school level from an accredited institution, or a combination of education and experience that satisfies the qualification criteria. - Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all Veterans Health Administration personnel. Exemption may be obtained for medical or religious reasons, with a face mask required if exempted.
